The Jewish Studies program offers travel awards to support Jewish Studies students participating in study abroad programs or other academic travel (e.g., thesis research, language training, etc.).
Who is eligible to receive the funding?
Any Penn State student affiliated with the Jewish Studies program (major, minor, or certificate students) is eligible to apply. If you are not yet affiliated with our program, please contact our assistant director Rob Jones.
How do I apply?
Your one-page application should include:
• A description of the travel opportunity and your reasons for pursuing it
• A short outline of the budget and your financial needs (please include whether you are receiving funds from any other sources)
• Your affiliation with the program (major, minor, certificate student)
The amount of the awards will depend on the number of applicants.
Note: If you receive funding, you will be asked to write a blog post about your experience that will be published on the Jewish Studies social media platforms and website.
Deadline: We will accept applications on a rolling basis.

The Jewish Studies Program Summer funding may be used to help you to cover costs of travel or tuition for the program.
Yes, you are still allowed to apply for the Travel Award if you are also applying for other sources of funding. We require that applicants disclose where else they are applying for funding and if applicants receive alternate sources of funding before the decision.
There are a number of other sources of funding for summer experiences available through Penn State. Please check the list of resources provided by the College of the Liberal Arts or contact the Penn State University Fellowship Office.
Recipients will find out at the Jewish Studies Awards Ceremony at 5:30pm on Monday, April 25th, 2022. All applicants will be notified by the first week of May.
